The Wolf. (Canis Lupus)

The Howl.
Did you know beagles howl? These wolves are legendary for their amazing howl. They use them to communicate from one wolf to another. The lone wolf howls to attract attention to his pack, while communal howls send messages from on territory to another. Some wolves are confrontational. Meaning, just like barking dogs, other wolves will howl because one will start to howl.
Near Extinction.
In the lower 48 states, gray wolves were hunted near extinction. Some populations survived, and others, not so much. A few gray wolves survive in Europe, Alaska, Canada, and Asia.

Red wolves became endangered in the wild in 1980. Scientists established a breeding program. They took a great, healthy Male and Female Red Wolf, and bred them. Today, perhaps 100, and counting survive in the wild.
Maned Wolves.
These wolves were more likely to represent a Red Fox.
This wolf is a distant relative from the gray wolves and red wolf. The species lives in South America.

Packs.
Wolves usually live in packs up to 10. They are really known to roam large distances without stopping. Perhaps 12 miles in a single day! The Alphas, aka the Male and Female, they are the only ones likely to breed. All the pack adults help take care of the pups.
Prey/Food.
These animals can take down prey their own size. Prey such as Deer, Elf, and Moose. When they are successful, they do not eat in moderation.
